Word Wall Locations and Uses

Word Wall Locations and Tips (You Prolly Didn't Know)

Word Wall Locations:
Animal Allegiance:
Angarvund (The Rift): Dungeon Quest: Madresi and the Wandering Dead
Ancient’s Ascent (Falkreath Hold): This is a dragon lair
Ysgramor’s Tomb (Winterhold Hold): The Companions Quest: Glory of the Dead
Note: This shout charms nearby animals into fighting for you. It allows you to kill animals without resistance. The shout cannot affect animals under another’s influence or summoned creatures. To kill a giant, you can use this shout on a mammoth to both attack the giant. This shout has a pretty far range and might attract animals previously out of view. It can be used to get your horse quickly, or to bludgeon soldiers to death at enemy camps (with their horses). Some players claim that this shout has attracted dragons….but they could be liars
Aura Whisper:
Northwind Summit (The Rift): This is a dragon lair
Valthume (The Reach): Dungeon Quest: Evil in Waiting. This is a dragon priest’s lair
Volunruund (The Pale): Dark Brotherhood Quest: The Silence Has Been Broken; Dungeon Quest: Silenced Tongues
Note: An effect similar to Detect Living/Detect Undead, can be used to see through walls. Perfect for archers, assassins, and thieves. Unfortunately for all of those people, this is not a whisper. It is a Shout (I mean, I’ve heard it both ways, though. It may attract the attention of only hostile people) and will attract enemies (You might want Illusion Perk, Quiet Casting). You’re welcome. But, the range is much better than Detect Living/Undead. It doesn’t differentiate between friend and foe, either.
Become Ethereal:
Ironbind Barrow (Winterhold Hold)
Lost Valley Redoubt (The Reach)
Ustengrav (Hjaalmarch): Main Quest: The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller
Note: While using this, you are invincible. You cannot be harmed. You can’t attack or cast spells, and you will still recover magicka and stamina. You can use it to bypass traps harmlessly, fall large distances, or retreat/move around during a tough battle
Call Dragon:
None, you learn this during Main Quest: The Fallen.
Note: This summons the dragon Odahviing. After you complete the main quest, you can have his aid in most outdoor areas. Warning: this shout has no effect unless you use all three words. This shout makes easy work of giant camps (shoot arrows when he’s in the air and use melee when he’s on the ground) or taking over forts in the Civil War Quests, since most people would rather pay attention to the dragon than you.
Call of Valor:
None; you learn this at the end of the Main Quest.
Note: Each word of the shout summons a different hero from Sovngarde, with greater strengths in combat. If you summon these ghosts and start murdering villagers, they will become hostile to you as well.
Clear Skies:
None, you learn this shout from the Greybeards during Main Quest: The Throat of the World.
Note: This clears the weather, disperses fog, and dispels poison traps
Disarm:
Eldersblood Peak (Hjaalmarch): This is a dragon’s lair
Silverdrift Lair (The Pale)
Snow Veil Sanctum (Winterhold Hold): Thieves Guild Quest: Speaking with Silence
Note: This shout only affects enemies up to a certain level (level 31). Some enemies cannot be disarmed. Some high-level Draugr have this shout. It is recommended to un-equip and re-equip weapons as the Draugr Shouts. This shout can affect multiple enemies, but they will pick their weapons back up after a few moments. This does not work on Bound Weapons. While dual-weilding, you will probably only lose your left-hand weapon
Dismaying Shout:
Dead Crone Rock (The Reach): Daedric Quest: Pieces of the Past
Labyrinthian (Hjaalmarch): In Shalidor’s Maze
Lost Tongue Overlook (The Rift): This is a dragon lair
Note: This shout only affects enemies up to a certain level. It works similarly to Fear/Frenzy spells, causing enemies to flee in terror
Dragonrend:
None, you learn this during Main Quest: Alduin’s Bane
Note: This is invaluable for fighting dragons if you prefer or learn strongly toward melee combat. This can be used to interrupt a dragon’s shouts as well. It is said that the Shout forces a dragon to understand morality (and death) and that this stuns them into landing. If used continuously, a dragon will not be able to take off again
Elemental Fury:
Dragontooth Crater (The Reach): This is a dragon lair
Kilkreath Ruins (Haafingar): Daedric Quest: The Break of Dawn
Shriekwind Bastion (Falkreath Hold)
Note: This Shout doesn’t last long, but increases your melee output by 30-70%. If timed correctly, it allows you to do a lot of damage
Fire Breath:
Dustman’s Cairn (Whiterun Hold): The Companions Quest: Proving Honor
Sunderstone Gorge (Falkreath Hold)
Throat of the World (Whiterun Hold): Main Quest: The Throat of the World
Note: This does high damage in a quick burst and sets enemies on fire. This is very good against foes already susceptible to fire damage like vampires, trolls, or frost atronachs. This seems to be a favorite of Bethesda’s since they mention it so often in their guidebook
Frost Breath:
Bonestrewn Crest (Eastmarch): This is a dragon lair
Folgunthur (Hjaalmarch): Side Quest: Forbidden Legend
Skyborn Altar (Hjaalmarch): This is a dragon lair
Note: This does the same damage over time as fire breath, but slows your enemies instead of setting them on fire. This is used for situations where the enemy is susceptible to frost (flame atronach) or need to be slowed
Ice Form:
Frostmere Crypt (The Pale): Dungeon Quest: The Pale Lady
Mount Anthor (Winterhold Hold): This is a dragon lair
Saarthal (Winterhold Hold): College of Winterhold Quest: Under Saarthal; Side Quest: Forbidden Legend
Note: This Shout forms in a wave of frost that freezes enemies solid. This paralyzes them and gives frost damage over time. Once attacked, the ice will break and free the enemy. Use this shout to attack enemies before they recover or to temporarily keep them out of the battle. If someone is pickpocketed, just as the ice breaks, anything available can be stolen. This shout cannot be used on a frost atronach (will reflect back), or mammoth, or dragon. This is the main shout Greybeards use if attacked. The effect lasts 20-30 seconds depending on enemy level. Smaller-level enemies will die immediately (like deer)
Kyne’s Peace:
Ragvald (The Reach): This is a dragon priest’s lair
Rannveig’s Fast (Whiterun Hold)
Shroud Hearth Barrow (The Rift): Dungeon Quest: Wilhelm’s Scream
Note: This only affects wild animals (except frost trolls and mammoths) and it mainly used to navigate an animal den, or pick off a pack of animals slowly. Birds will drop out of the sky when hit with this shout. It also detects animals within range, similar to the spell Detect Life. Different words affect how quickly the animals react to being attacked.
Marked For Death:
Autumnwatch Tower (The Rift): This is a dragon’s lair
Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary (Falkreath Hold)
Forsaken Cave (The Pale): Side Quest: The White Phial
Note: This causes damage to an enemy and his armor over time, making it good to use on bosses. This words extremely well with Perks Skullcrusher (two-handed) or Bonebreaker (one-handed) since these perks allow warhammers and maces to ignore 25-75% of armor on top of the extra 25-75% from this Shout. If used on a follower, their armor may glitch and stay low-powered.
Slow Time:
Hag’s End (The Reach): Dark Brotherhood Radiant Quest: The Feeble Fortune
Korvanjung (The Pale): Civil War Quest: The Jagged Crown
Labyrinthian (Hjaalmarch): College of Winterhold Quest: The Staff of Magnus; this is a dragon priest lair
Note: This shout slows time. If you are taking damage from a status effect, that will not slow. You can use this Shout to make potions last longer or when using the free-house glitch (buy a house, exit chat quickly, and store all your money before the character stops speaking). What this Shout was meant to be used for is for extra time to assault an enemy, to line up a perfect sniper shot, or to outrun any foe.
Storm Call:
Forelhost (The Rift): This is a dragon priest’s lair
High Gate Ruins (The Pale): This is a dragon priest’s lair.
Skulfadn (Other Realm): Main Quest: The World-Eater’s Eyrie. This is a dragon priest’s lair.
Note: This summons a powerful lightning storm that strikes at anything or anyone (including followers and townsfolk). This is highly effective against dragons. Using any lightning or shock magic during this will attract lightning and kill you.
Throw Voice:
Shearpoint (The Pale): This is a dragon and dragon priest lair
Note: This Shout produces no sound, instead throwing your voice to target. Enemies will follow this sound, allowing you to sneak by or remain hidden. You can also use it to lure enemies into traps. This word wall uniquely teaches you all three words. The dragon on Shearpoint is said to be a bounty quest for 500 Gold, but is weak, unlike Mr. Dragon Priest over there. This doesn’t work on passive mobs (try shooting arrows near them instead?). If you have a companion (or the shout Call of Valor) who will hold off Crusty Mr. Not-A-Day-Over-300 (the dragon priest), then you can quickly take out the dragon, or run around the dragon priest to the word wall.
Unrelenting Force:
Bleak Falls Barrow (Falkreath Hold): Main Quest: Bleak Falls Barrow; Side Quest: The Golden Claw
High Hrothgar (Whiterun Hold): Main Quest: The Way of the Voice (learn the second and third words)
Note: This staggers large enemies, and throws small ones. If a dragon breathes fire/frost, this shout can deflect it. You can use this to push enemies into traps, off cliffs, make space in combat, knock your followers (that’s you, Lydia) into the air, harvest lots and lots of butterfly wings (since the wings don’t blow away), trap a dragon priest on a cliff, and knock some dragons out of the air (killing them if you’re lucky). This Shout will open the coffins of draugr as well, or detonate runes. Many high-level draugr will use this shout (you’ll go into 3rd person view for a second). However, some enemies will not be affected like: enemies with wards (though it may break the ward), children, some flying creatures, fish, ghosts, and dragon priests (though you can knock them off cliffs and arrow-spam them).
Whirlwind Sprint:
Dead Men’s Respite (Hjaalmarch): Bards’ College Quest: Tending the Flames
High Hrothgar (Whiterun Hold): Main Quest: The Way of the Voice
Volskygge (Haafingar): This is a dragon priest’s lair
Note: This is useful for reaching platforms, or getting into forts from a hill nearby, as well as outrunning, or catching a foe. This can be used to glitch though closed doors (it is said) by dropping a wooden bowl, then Shout-sprinting toward it (and the door).
